Friday 15 September 2023

On Aug. 23, 2023, Daniel Klein successfully defended his dissertation and can soon call himself Dr. rer. nat. The cooperative doctorate was carried out together with the University of Siegen, where the defense also took place.

The following professors were represented on the examination committee:

Judith Kreyenschmidt, Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences

Claudia Wickleder, University of Siegen

Carsten Engelhard, University of Siegen (second examiner)

Peter Kaul, H-BRS (first examiner)

In his PhD thesis titled "Rapid Identification and Classification of Food-relevant Spoilage Microorganisms by Raman- and IR-microspectroscopy" Klein pursued the rapid identification and classification of food-relevant microorganisms. For this purpose, spectra were generated by Raman and IR microspectroscopy of the bacteria and assigned using statistical methods.

„"Raw meat quickly shows bacterial infestation. Consuming a sufficient amount of contaminated meat can be hazardous to health. To prevent this, I make contaminations (e.g. bacteria) visible on complex substrates (e.g. meat)."”
