PhDs at H-BRS: Facts and Figures

“To be able to lie, statistics actually has too little imagination.” (Martin Gerhard Reisenberg, * 1949, librarian and author)

Doing a PhD at H-BRS or not? That is not a question. Graduate Institute (GI) was founded in 2011 and promotes interdisciplinary and sustainable young scientists. We have some interesting facts for that matter (due to 12/31/19):

Total number of ongoing doctoral supervisions at the H-BRS:
84 of which 67% male, 33% female
(Comparison to 31.12.2018: 94 in total, of which 70% male, 30% female. Comparison to 31.12.2017: 81 in total, of which 74% male, 26% female)

The figures refer exclusively to validated doctoral projects, for which both the working title and the supervision at the H-BRS and a cooperating university are fixed. The H-BRS thus applies comparatively high standards in counting the number of doctoral projects it supervises.

Number of ongoing doctoral supervisions in the individual departments:
14 in the department of Management Sciences
25 in the department of Computer Sciences
6 in the department of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Technical Journalism
29 in the department of Natural Sciences
2 in the department of Social Security Studies
8 at the International Centre for Sustainable Development (IZNE)

In 2019, a total of nine doctorates were successfully completed, three in the Department of Computer Science, two in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Technical Journalism, two in the Department of Applied Natural Sciences, one in the Department of Management Sciences and one in the Department of Social Policy and Social Security.
