German accident statistics report an average of 14.500 accidents each year with circular saw benches and similar machines. This alarming number might soon decrease due to an innovative security feature:

The Smart Hover project that has been funded by the Industrial Accident Corporation of the Wood-Working Industry has now been brought to a successful close.

One source of danger when working with woodworking machines is the manual adjustment of the circular guard. This protection feature can only work effectively if it is lowered to the level of the workpiece. If the circular guard stays in the upmost position, it does not protect the workers' hand.

The Smart Hover System uses skin detection to distinguish work material and machines from the users' hand and it adjusts the guard automatically in the appropriate distance within seconds.
