Sustainability at HBRS

Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg

The IZNE supports the conception and implementation of a Sustainable University at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. The concept of a sustainable university is multidimensional and includes technical, logistical and social measures.

The Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences is considered a pioneer in the sustainable construction and operation of buildings. As early as 1995, environmental aspects were incorporated into the planning of the new buildings at the Rheinbach and Sankt-Augustin campuses. Examples include the university's photovoltaic systems and resource-saving processes such as rainwater collection and temperature regulation in the lecture halls by means of an underground duct.

In 2007, the university was also awarded the basic certificate audit as a family-friendly university, and in the following years the offers were further developed for the 2010 re-audit. Measures include the expansion of the women's advancement plan and the promotion of families.

Procurement, mobility and university life are also to be designed in an environmentally conscious and socially responsible manner. The Sustainable University aims to bring together and expand these existing elements. A working group of the IZNE supports the administration in the implementation of the sustainable university concept and is in regular exchange with the subdivisions of the university and the students, especially within the sustainable development working group.
