H-BRS mourns the loss of Matthias Jarke
Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) mourns the loss of Professor Matthias Jarke. He was co-founder and director of the Bonn-Aachen International Centre for Information Technology (b-it). Jarke, a professor at RWTH Aachen University for many years and Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT, died on 21 March at the age of 71.

Dr Alexander Marquardt presents research studies at the IEEE VR 2024
The IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality and 3D User Interfaces (IEEE VR) is the leading international event for the presentation of research results in the fields of virtual, augmented and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR) and took place this year in Orlando, Florida/USA. Postdoctoral researcher Dr Alexander Marquardt from H-BRS was able to present the results of his research on the topic of "Selection Performance and Reliability of Eye and Head Gaze Tracking Under Varying Light Conditions".

Based on the way the brain works, Abdelrahman's research (at H-BRS in the Master's degree programme in Autonomous Systems) is looking for an approach that aims to improve the learning ability and adaptability of robots by enabling them to move safely in unstructured environments.

Researcher from Ukraine visits the H-BRS
Professor Mariia Dorosh from the Ukrainian H-BRS partner university Chernihiv Polytechnic National University was a guest at the university for a month. Together with computer science professor Petra Haferkorn, she worked on a study on information security during this time. A surprise for the researcher was how the german public reacts to the war in ukraine.

International exchange between the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) in Japan with the Department of Computer Science and the Institute for Visual Computing (IVC) at H-BRS in the DAAD-PPP project 'Multisensory Cues to Evoke Emotional Responses and Awe in Virtual Reality'.

Learning by teaching - ghosts learn to programme
An exciting intergenerational theatre project called "Hotti on stage" presents "Ghosts in Downing Street" on stage in January 2024. This play is all about the next generation of ghosts, who are less interested in traditional haunting and more interested in computers and the internet.
