Sponsors and scholarship recipients had the opportunity to get to know each other over a glass of champagne at the casual reception that kicked off the event. Afterwards, President Hartmut Ihne opened the ceremony for the presentation of the scholarship certificates in the Steyler Missionaries’ Great Hall. This year, the Zonta Club Bonn was introduced as a sponsor. The Zonta Club Bonn has been sponsoring the Deutschlandstipendium since 2015 and is committed to promoting women’s rights and educational opportunities both locally and worldwide. The speech on behalf of the sponsors was given by Andrei Frömmer, Head of Group Management, Training and Personnel Development at the Postbank, which has been supporting the university’s education fund since the Deutschlandstipendium programme first started in 2011. The musical programme was one of the evening’s main highlights, featuring spine-tingling Celtic sounds by well-known harpist Konstanze Jarcyzk.
During the sponsorship period 2018/2019, 134 students at the university will receive funding amounting to € 300 a month, 126 of them through the Deutschlandstipendium programme, five through the DAAD and three through the university’s own study foundation. The monthly payments, which will be made for one year, will enable the scholarship winners to concentrate on their studies or carry out social or community service.
This year, 33 private sponsors have pledged monies to the education fund; quite a few of them have been involved right from the start. Among the six “newcomers” who have decided to sponsor students for the first time, two scholarships are being provided by Kölner Gymnasial- und Stiftungsfonds (Cologne Secondary Education and Endowment Fund). Special thanks go to our premium sponsors, who are providing eight or more scholarships; these are SER Solutions Deutschland GmbH, the headquarters of which are located on Bonner Bogen and which is funding 30 scholarships, the Liessem Stiftung (Liessem Foundation) with 20 scholarships, Postbank AG with 12 scholarships, and the Hans Hermann Voss-Stiftung (Hans Hermann Voss Foundation) based in Wipperfürth with ten scholarships.
The opening speech was given by President Hartmut Ihne in the Steyler Missionaries’ Great Hall, the first time that the scholarship ceremony has been held in this location.
