CoSTARK career coaching for international students

Campus
Rheinbach
Das Projekt co-STARK ist eine Kooperation zwischen Prof. Patrizia Ianiro-Dahm (Wirtschaftspsychologie) und des Projektes STARK.
Project concept
International students are given the opportunity to receive professional advice and intensive support from student coaches throughout the application process.
Target group:
International students who are looking for internships and jobs in Germany or who are currently undertaking a mandatory work placement.
Coaches:
Students on the Master’s degree course in Business Psychology who have been professionally trained at the university (trainer: Prof. Ianiro-Dahm) and expect to work in human resources later in their careers.
Goals:
This career coaching service, which is specially tailored to the needs of international students, is intended to assist international students with specific career-related concerns and facilitate the start of their working lives (examples of topics: assistance with overcoming individual challenges during the application process, strengthening resources, and self-reflection).
Procedure:
- Application: International students who fit in the target group apply using the following registration form / LEA.
- Familiarisation: The coaches will get to know their potential clients (i.e. the international students) during a workshop held at the beginning of the winter semester 2021/2022. Coaches and clients will be paired by the principle of chance.
- Meetings: The coach/client pair will meet for five coaching sessions and address career-related issues. These personal meetings will take place on either the Rheinbach campus or the Sankt Augustin campus.
Additional information:
Dr. Agnes Derjanecz, STARK project leader, will instruct coaches on the needs and characteristics of the target group in the course of a number of classes. Here she will introduce the STARK project and the career-related needs of international students together with relevant studies and specialized literature on the subject of “integrating international professionals into the German employment market”.
Outlook:
The goal is clearly to establish this service, i.e. to perpetuate the two-semester cycles (summer semester: coach training / winter semester: coaching sessions) as an established part of the “project and research work” carried out by students on the Master’s degree course in Business Psychology and as a regular coaching service for international students at H-BRS.
Do you belong to the target group?
1st question:
Would you like to use the coaching session to discuss specific job-related issues/problems?
2nd question:
Are you prepared to commit to 5 career coaching sessions? The dates (5 sessions during the winter semester 2021/2022 starting in October 2021) will be arranged individually with my coach.
3rd question:
Is your German up to B2 level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)?
Did you answer “yes” to all three questions? If so, you belong to our target group and we look forward to receiving your application.
