Consulting Services for Researchers

Many databases we have licensed are not self-explanatory in their use. We offer you advice on effective searches, e.g. the use of logical combinations, search strategies or searching for citation relationships.

If you are writing a scientific publication, the use of a reference management software can be of great advantage. We offer consultation on such programs. In particular, we give introductions to the market leader Citavi, for whom we have acquired a license for university members. Of course we also help you to find a suitable alternative (e.g. for Mac users).

Would you like to collaboratively exchange files and content with colleagues in your team? We offer consulting for different cloud services, e.g. our BibCloud (based on Nextcloud) or Confluence. Please contact us.

The possibilities of scientific publishing have become more diverse. New forms of publication, such as Open Access publishing, lead to new questions that affect researchers directly and where your library can help. We continuously monitor current developments on the scientific publication market. We assist in the research of suitable Open Access journals or assist with copyright issues. 

The library provides a publication server for members of the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences to publish research results. The information about your publication will also be forwarded to search engines such as Google or Base in order to maximise your visibility. If you have already transferred rights to a publisher and would like a secondary publication, we will check whether and under what circumstances this is possible.

The library assigns ISBN and DOI for suitable publications on the publication server. Further information can be found here.

Funding agencies increasingly demand that the research data collected is made available to the public. The aim is the reproducibility of research results and the avoidance of "double research". We therefore advise on data management plans, data storage and backup as well as publication options on research data repositories.

The library offers advice on citation measurements such as the impact factor, H-index and alternative metrics. We also provide the Web of Science database and advise on its use. Social media are also an opportunity to increase the visibility of young scientists. Contact us if you are interested or check out our workshops we have to offer.

Depending on the form of publication, participation in VG Wort's royalty distribution can provide lucrative pocket money. The Graduate Institute and the Library will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
