Checklist and Handbook for International Students

Those applicants who get an admission to one of our study programmes will receive an online access to our "International Student Handbook" with comprehensive information about life and study at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences compiled by the International Office.

The following checklist is just a first information how to prepare your stay at our University:

 

BEFORE ARRIVAL

            1 year before arrival

  • Check prerequisites (language certificates, admission restrictions etc)

  • Check funding opportunities, maybe apply for scholarships

     

    6 months before arrival

  • Exchange students: check recognition of credit programmes

  • Check deadlines

  • Apply for room in dormitory at Studierendenwerk

  • Apply for visa at German embassy in your home country

     

    3 months before arrival

  • Get health insurance (check if is recognized in Germany)

  • Make travel arrangements (check time of Orientation Weeks)

     

    Shortly before arrival

  • Inform Welcome Centre about arrival time

     

ARRIVAL
  • Move into apartment, pay deposit, rent

  • Get health insurance if necessary

  • Registration with local authorities (within 1 week of arrival)

  • Broadcasting fees

  • Pay semester contribution

  • Foreigners‘ Registration Office residence permit: apply for appointment

  • Open bank account 

  • Orientation Weeks and course schedule

     

DEPARTURE
  • De-register with local authorities / foreigners’ office

  • Return books to library

  • Cancel bank account (after all payments have been made)

  • Return keys of dormitory room
