ICT Summer School 2026 in Helsinki: International teaching meets digital practice
From web basics to digital makerspaces
The course focused on developing participants’ own digital projects. Building on the basics of HTML and CSS, the participants created interactive web applications using JavaScript, whilst exploring current concepts in modern web development.
Building on this, the students were introduced to the concept of reusable web components and digital makerspaces. These enable digital applications to be customised and further developed even with relatively little programming knowledge.
In addition, the course covered future-oriented topics such as data sovereignty, control over one’s own data, and the web desktop as a new way of using web-based applications.
International exchange as part of the programme
In addition to the academic content, the Summer School offered numerous opportunities for international exchange. Students and lecturers from different countries and universities came together, shared experiences and forged new contacts across university and national borders.
Joint activities and informal get-togethers after the course days complemented the programme and enabled participants to get to know one another better outside the classroom.
The ICT Summer School 2026 thus combined innovative teaching, practical work and international encounters – whilst also offering students the opportunity to expand their digital skills in an international learning environment.
