Successful Data Saturday - Rheinland 2023 at H-BRS
Approximately 200 participants from Germany and abroad came to the symposium (17.6.23), where content from the areas of data management, cloud and hybrid architecture, analytics, business intelligence, AI and much more was presented. Among them were students and staff from the Department of Computer Science, some of whom had already been guests at the PreCon held the day before with two full-day workshops on the topics of "Container-based Applications" and "Data Protection in Business Analytics" with around 70 active participants.
Despite colliding with the "Absolut Steinchen"(AS) event, the parallelism was a benefit for both events.
- The participants of Data Saturday were happy about a diversified "supporting programme" with Lego bricks and
- the numerous visitors of the AS were happy about the give-aways of the Data Saturday exhibitors in the form of sweets, stickers, balls and many other small gifts.
The participants of the conference were able to listen to and actively discuss exciting topics from the current application environment and the technical field of database systems from 36 presentations by many speakers from renowned companies from Germany and abroad, including Google and Microsoft.
Lectures from the field of research (e.g. Ameli Kirse: "From Pixels to Species: How a Raspberry PI can change the way we survey biodiversity" in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change, Bonn) could also be attended.
This year, we again had the pleasure of welcoming the youngest speaker, 11-year-old Pia Kettner, to the university. Together with her father Benjamin Kettner, she gave an impressive introduction to the application possibilities of the Power BI software on the topic "It's child's play - visualisation with Power BI".

Despite financial problems of the Passport during the pandemic and a 4-year break with the activities of PASS Deutschland e.V. UG Rheinland, it goes on:
A short review: The umbrella organisation PASS Global will cease operations on 15.01.2021 and has filed for insolvency. For many of us this is sad news, as both PASS Deutschland e.V. and many of our members owe a lot to PASS Global. But there is also good news: PASS Deutschland e.V. is not affected by the insolvency of PASS Global.
The activities of PASS Global have been taken over by the IT company Redgate Software ... also the name SQLSaturday ... therefore PASS Deutschland e.V. has decided on the new name "Data Saturday".
The next Data Saturday in Germany will take place on 24.02.2024 at the Microsoft Headquarters in Munich.
