Protecting information is essential in today's world. The threat situation at universities is constantly increasing with regard to cybercrime. As the responsible authority, the Ministry of Arts and Sciences (MKW) has responded to this by issuing the „Vereinbarung zur Informationssicherheit“ (VzI) (= ‘Agreement on Information Security’) and the „Vereinbarung zur Cybersicherheit“ (VzC) (= ‘Agreement on Cyber Security’).

IT security plays a key role here: targeted and correctly implemented measures reduce the risks of financial damage and the integrity of personal data. Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences is taking extensive measures to ward off cyber attacks and establish prevention.

ITS has therefore set itself the goal of further increasing the security level of all IT systems at the university. Certification in accordance with BSI IT-Grundschutz is being sought for an objective assessment of the security level.

The timeframe for the university is ambitious: After 4 years, the universities submit the BSI certificate to the MKW and after 3 years the requirements of the VzC must be met.

The resulting tasks and measures are organised in projects. In order to coordinate this overall project and the various sub-projects, the ‘Project Office’ was established in mid-2023. The employees in the team support the implementation of the measures, coordinate deadlines and draw up schedules with the responsible persons. Regular jour fixe meetings round off the collaboration between all those involved in the information security team.
