Two Awards for the IVC at ISMAR 2026
The conference took place in Bari, Italy, from 5 to 9 October 2026. The awards recognise two contributions to the design and use of mixed and augmented reality, both co-authored by Ernst Kruijff from H-BRS.
The first paper, “MR-Compare”, introduces a system that enables users to compare digital 3D reconstructions directly with their physical surroundings. In a mixed reality view, users can spatially overlay different representations and identify differences. The research examines both conventional polygon meshes and reconstructions using 3D Gaussian Splatting. The paper was authored by Changrui Zhu, Ernst Kruijff, Pengju Zhang and Simon Julier.
The second paper, “When Registration Error Becomes Ambiguous: Behavioural Effects of Static Misalignment in Augmented Reality”, investigates how inaccurate alignment of virtual cues affects user behaviour. It focuses on what happens when displayed cues are offset from their physical targets. The study shows that, alongside the size of the offset, the spatial layout and the clarity of the relationship between cues and targets also matter. The paper was authored by Ziwen Lu, Kalila Shapiro, Ernst Kruijff, Anthony Steed and Simon Julier.
The two awards highlight the successful research collaboration between the IVC and UCL. Congratulations to everyone involved!
