International studies: Two students from Cameroon shine with top grades

Two international students from Cameroon have completed their Bachelor's degree at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg with excellent grades: Ursulle Pokam with a grade of 1.33 and Anas Lines Tankam Djoupe with 1.48. The Dean of the Faculty, Iris Groß, congratulates the two mechanical engineering students. They can look back on an intensive, instructive course of study at the Sankt Augustin campus - with challenges, but also many experiences.
They each became aware of H-BRS through relatives and acquaintances who had studied here themselves and were impressed by the good facilities, the teaching and the open atmosphere.
As international students, both initially had to overcome linguistic and cultural hurdles. “German is not my mother tongue. I was afraid of making mistakes and therefore often spoke quietly,” recalls Lines. In the lectures, however, she deliberately tried to sit next to German students in order to learn the language better and make new contacts. Ursulle also describes the start as challenging - especially understanding some of the lecture content or getting to grips with practical applications and laboratories.

Both emphasize how important it is to get actively involved. “You shouldn't be afraid to ask questions and talk to professors,” advises Ursulle. And Lines adds: “Just speak up - even if you make mistakes. That's the only way to become more confident.”
The successful graduation is not only an academic milestone for both of them, but also a personal triumph. Ursulle, born in Yaoundé, and Lines, who was the first in her family to go abroad, have made their way at H-BRS with ambition, openness and courage.
