Exhibition opening: Visionary female researchers - 300 years of scientific history from a female perspective

Visionäre Forscherinnen Ausstellung_3zu2

Date

Wednesday, 26 November 2025

Time

16:00 - 18:30

Location

Sankt Augustin Campus | Library and University Road

Over the past 300 years, the history of science has repeatedly produced women who were successful in their disciplines but remained largely unnoticed in comparison to their male colleagues. The women portrayed were and are not only pioneers in their respective disciplines, but are also role models in their passionate and courageous commitment to social justice, emancipation, integration and sustainability beyond the boundaries of their discipline.

These exceptional female scientists will be honoured at an exhibition organised by Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences to mark its 30th anniversary. Originally, the exhibition was to be shown to mark the university's 25th anniversary, but it could not take place due to the coronavirus pandemic. The project has now been realised after all, initiated and curated by Sabine Baumgartner and Fidegnon Witte from the Centre for Science and Technology Transfer (ZWT). The exhibition was created in collaboration with the university's Central Equal Opportunities Officer, Dr Barbara Hillen-Haas, and Josephine Kullat, Gender Consultant in the PeP@H-BRS project.

The exhibition in Sankt Augustin

The exhibition will open on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, with invited guests in Sankt Augustin. The philosopher Amrei Bahr, co-founder of the #I am Hannah initiative, will be a guest. A panel discussion with Toni Loh (Professor of Applied Ethics, in particular Ethics and Transformation) and Gabriele Alonso Rodriguez (Central Equal Opportunities Officer at the University of Bonn) will shed light on the situation of women in academia today, address structural hurdles and discuss possible solutions.

The event will be moderated by Barbara Hillen-Haas, Central Equal Opportunities Officer at H-BRS.

The university public is also cordially invited to take part in the event. Due to limited places, please register for the panel discussion by Friday, 21 November 2025, using the following link.

Following the opening event in the library, the exhibition can be viewed in the foyer of the main building from 26 to 28 November 2025 before it moves to Rheinbach. From 9 February to 31 March 2026, it will be on display again in Sankt Augustin (then in the library).
