Date

Friday, 20 October 2023

Time

18:00 - 23:59

Location

Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, Sankt Augustin Campus, Grantham-Allee 20, 53757 Sankt Augustin

On Friday, 20 October 2023, 49 stations in the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg region will open their doors for the Night of Technology. Of course, the H-BRS will also be there with a varied and extensive programme. If you want, you can meet a Neanderthal avatar in virtual reality, race around the circuit there in a real cockpit or acquire a small driving licence at a professional studio camera in the video studio. And of course our scientists provide direct insights into fascinating research areas with a high degree of practical relevance.

All events of the Technology Night 2023 at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg are open to the public and free of charge, registration is not required. Shuttle buses will also be running from the Sankt Augustin Campus to the other stations in the area. You can find an overview of which events are taking place where exactly on campus at what time under the following link:

Visitors get an insight into degree programmes and research projects in eight laboratories. In the Department of Computer Science, the student robotics team b-it-bots, which has just become world champion, will demonstrate what its robots can do. You can play games in the Game Studio. Those interested can dive into the world of the adventure game Honu and meet a Neanderthal avatar. Or they can test new hardware and an arcade machine.

In the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Technical Journalism (EMT), students from the Formula Student team present their self-developed all-electric racing car. An Industry 4.0 model factory (Smart Factory) is set up in the automation technology lab - where visitors can learn how an order in the web shop is processed all the way to individual production and delivery. In the materials science lab they can study biopolymers and the medieval art of sword heat treatment or microscope metals and determine their hardness.

Students experience how radio and television programmes are produced in the audio and video studio - and those who want can take the small driving licence for studio cameras. The researchers are doing pioneering work for the energy transition in the Power Electronics Laboratory. They explain to the audience how they want to maximise the efficiency of renewable energies and optimise their integration into the power grids. The Biometrics Evaluation Centre (BEZ) deals with automatic border control systems and fingerprint scanners. During a tour, the researchers explain their work - and of course those interested can test the systems themselves.
