Great response at the Night of Technology
Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg was this year's science partner for the Night of Technology, which was initiated by the VDI and VDE. The motto was "See, understand and experience technology". And this is exactly what visitors to the Sankt Augustin campus were able to do: they communicated with robots, immersed themselves in fascinating parallel worlds with VR goggles, tried their hand as cameramen in the TV studio, tested computer games developed by students and learnt how innovative solutions are used in public safety. The guests experienced how a biometric check works at an airport gate in the test rooms of the Institute for Security Research and the Biometrics Evaluation Centre, which H-BRS operates together with the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Meanwhile, the Visual Computing Lab provided an insight into projects at the Institute of Visual Computing.
Fascinating, breathtaking, sweet
The Department of Computer Science and the Department of Engineering and Communication were particularly well represented. Here the robot world champion team and computational chemistry, there the materials laboratory and the smart factory - in many places you could experience that technology is fascinating, can be fun and sometimes even tastes good. Who would expect that Dubai chocolate is made in engineering laboratories? The sweet surprise was a small highlight for the cross-generational audience, which was constantly tasted.
The BRS Motorsport team had transformed a large car park into a race track. There, the students drove the competition-tested electric racing car they had developed themselves through a course at breathtaking speed.
For the first time, external partners also presented themselves on campus alongside university institutions. The German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) from Siegburg arrived with several emergency vehicles and heavy equipment. It demonstrated dam stabilisation, while the Wirtgen Group presented a modern road milling machine next door.
