Kicking off your career whilst at university: a successful anniversary edition of the Company Day
As a University of Applied Sciences, H-BRS attaches great importance to students gaining professional experience at an early stage. “Our students do not simply emerge from the academic ivory tower onto the labour market. They gain extensive practical experience in companies and organisations outside the university whilst still studying, and are therefore already familiar with the realities of the workplace by the time they graduate. The Company Day makes an important contribution to this,” says the Vice-President for Research and Transfer, Professor Johannes Steinhaus, who cut the birthday cake to mark the opening of the fair on Wednesday.
IT and software sectors strongly represented
Companies from the IT and software sectors were strongly represented at this year’s Company Day, but there were also numerous exhibitors from the service, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering sectors. Thanks to this mix of sectors, students from all five departments at the H-BRS (Economics, Computer Science, Engineering and Communication, Applied Natural Sciences, Social Policy and Social Security) had the opportunity to discover interesting companies.
The Company Day is one of the largest careers fairs in the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg region. Several companies were already present at the first event in 2001, which was then known as ‘Engineering Day’. ‘Many companies have been supporting the Company Day for years, and many former students now man their own company’s stand. This shows me that it has been worthwhile for the university and the business community to continuously develop this format over the past 25 years,” says Birgit Jendrock, project manager for Unternehmenstag at H-BRS. New exhibitors also take part every year.
Application photos and talks
As well as discussions and job vacancies, the event offered students free additional services such as application photos taken by professional photographers, CV reviews and talks. The Company Day was organised by the university in collaboration with the agency Red Braid.
The target audience comprises students, those starting their careers and young professionals. Not only H-BRS members but also external visitors are welcome.
