Sigmar Gabrial, the chair of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and vice chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, has sent a letter to our university in which he expressly congratulated H-BRS on the success story it has become over the past two decades.

Mr Gabriel said that the founding of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences had been considered a ‘consolation’ for the region when the federal government and the German parliament moved to Berlin in the mid-90s.

"Consolation? Not at all! Your university has become a magnet for an increasing number of students. It is a catalyst for the region and a partner to SMEs. What you and your colleagues have achieved over the past 20 years is exceptional," said Vice Chancellor Gabriel.

The vice chancellor added that he was impressed by the way our university, while maintaining international partnerships, was rooted in the region in respect of the tuition provided and the research conducted. “You open new doors time and again,” he said.

Vice Chancellor Gabriel pointed out that Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University’s example clearly showed how universities of applied sciences had developed into key pillars of our academic system. He particularly praised our university’s dedication in its efforts to employ more women in what are considered ‘traditional technical men’s jobs’. In addition, he complimented H-BRS on the family-friendly study conditions it offers.
