Success in the Management Cup

Tuesday 26 August 2014

Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University was ranked among the Top 10 universities in the Management Cup, the nation-wide business simulation game carried out by the German “Wirtschaftswoche” magazine.

17 members from Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University competed in the first Management Cup run by “Wirtschaftswoche” - along with approximately 9,000 additional competitiors from more than 260 universities. 50 per cent of participants dropped out in each round, while approximately 1,500 reached the finals.

Even though H-BRS did not win an individual victory, the students of Business Administration helped “their” University to reach 10th place in the university ranking - and thus, to gain an edge over any other university in North Rhine-Westphalia. RWTH Aachen University, which was ranked 19th, came second.

What is particularly gratifying is the considerable success rate of those who reached the finals: on average, less than 20 per cent of participants from one university moved into the final round, as opposed to nearly fifty per cent of H-BRS students.

University President Hartmut Ihne said, “Our University is very proud of this excellent position. For us, orientation towards business practice is a central element of success in studying. Our students are provided with plenty of inspiring opportunities to make economic theory tangible for and applicable to business practice.”

The business simulation game is a course offered during the fifth semester of the degree programme in Business Administration.
