Consequences following an incident of discrimination at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg

Friday 16 June 2023

Following the allegations of discrimination against a professor at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, the university management has decided, after examining the facts and discussing the matter with those involved, to investigate the matter within the framework of a formal procedure. It is currently considering legal action. However, in the interest of all parties involved, the university cannot and must not provide any further information on ongoing proceedings.

To enable the students of the course in question to continue their studies unhindered, the university also offers additional courses and the examination with another professor. The university management takes the allegations very seriously and is continuing its efforts to stay in contact with all those involved. Racism and discrimination have no place at the university.

In a statement on the incident, the university management emphasises: "The H-BRS is a diversity-friendly university that wants to enable a positive learning and working reality for all university members - regardless of origin, gender, age, physical abilities, educational background, sexual orientation, religion, ideology and other factors. Our university is a place where racism, misogyny or queer hostility, exclusion of people with disabilities or chronic illness, and any other form of discrimination have no place."

The university offers various contact points for employees, professors, assistant lecturers, and students in cases of discrimination. The relevant contact persons can be found on the H-BRS website at https://www.h-brs.de/en/vp3/contact-points-case-discrimination-h-brs. The Diversity Management team will help you find the right contact point.
