Shaping diversity: University receives award
"The diversity of people is an enrichment for studying, science and campus life," says Sarah Friedrichs, Head of Diversity Management at H-BRS. She sees the audit as a milestone, as the idea of diversity must become a permanent and irreversible part of academic and university management. "With its diversity work, the university contributes to strengthening and preserving democracy and to treating each other with appreciation and respect," adds Friedrichs. The skills acquired in the process would benefit graduates in their professional lives.
The steering committee, which includes Bode and Friedrichs as well as Prof Dr Annette Menke as the presidential commissioner for diversity (see also interview), will now work with other people to develop a package of measures for the period up to 2025.
"Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg is home to a wide variety of personalities. They are an asset to the university. We want to capitalise on this added value and bring diversity aspects to bear in all processes at the university," says Menke. One of the aims is to make the diversity of H-BRS more visible on campus and in the region.
