Recommendations and tips for finding an accommodation

The Bonn-Rhein-Sieg area is a prospering region with a young population. There are diverse possibilities for accommodation available for students, but since demand usually exceeds supply we recommend an early onset of your search. Please be aware that usually the number of applicants exceeds the rooms available. Therefore we suggest to all Incomings to start looking for an accommodation as early as possible.

Accommodation for international students

Unlike in many other countries, German universities do not automatically provide their students with accommodation. Instead, students must make their own housing arrangements based on their own tastes and requirements. There are a variety of different options in Bonn or near the campuses in Sankt Augustin and Rheinbach, ranging from dormitories to privately arranged flat shares.

For a better understanding of the commonly used abbreviations on the German housing market, please use the GLOSSARY and the ABBREVIATIONS as a small interpretation help. For the first days, we would advise you to find a short-term place to stay (for the first days or the first month). Once you are on-site, you can find accommodation much better.

The following are addresses of privately run websites. There have been cases of students being asked by individuals for money before arrival (sometimes to be paid to a non-German account), only to find out later that the flat did not exist or was not for rent. Please be careful, especially if the offer seems too good to be true! We always ask you to report suspicious bait offers to us. Feel free to contact us at any time in case of queries or doubts about an apartment offer. For this and cost reasons, we always recommend that you first take advantage of the services offered by the Studentenwerk Bonn and on the pages of the DAAD.
