PROFILE OF PROF. DR. MAX LEITTERSTORF

Professor Max Leitterstorf joined the Department of Management Sciences at Sankt Augustin Campus of Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in August 2019. He currently teaches in the field of (management) accounting (all in German).

He prefers using modern teaching methods, such as case studies, business games, videos, etc. and discusses real business scenarios in class. Max Leitterstorf was a contract lecturer at H-BRS in the 2019 summer semester.

Max Leitterstorf wrote his doctoral thesis on “IPO Financing of Family Firms” at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar. From 2014 to 2019, he was a junior professor for financing in family firms. His research has been published in the Strategic Management Journal (SMJ) and presented at the conference of the Strategic Management Society (SMS), for example. Next to his own research, Max Leitterstorf sits on the review board of the Family Business Review (FBR) and serves as ad-hoc reviewer for various other journals. From 2008 to 2014, Max Leitterstorf worked as consultant for the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Taken together, he has spent several years in the USA, France and Japan.

His research focuses on family firms, the oft-cited backbone of Germany’s economy. Unfortunately, many family firms struggle to maintain their success across several generations. Hence, he is especially interested in the factors that allow family firms to succeed in the long run. These might include succession planning, but also individual financing strategies. Max Leitterstorf’s studies do not just compare family and non-family firms, but also analyse the heterogeneous structures in family firms.

Max Leitterstorf lives in Sankt Augustin with his wife and children and practices at a Karate club in his free time.
