From idea to concept: Second AWAKE cohort successfully completes program
On 30 September 2025, the eleven participants in the second round of AWAKE celebrated their graduation in the co-working space "THE 9TH" in Bonn. Over the past six months, they have developed business ideas, networked, taken part in workshops and strengthened their skills as founders.
What were still vague thoughts and initial sketches at the kick-off have become tangible concepts over the past few months. With the support of workshops, mentoring and the Start-up-Manufaktur network, concrete business models, a strong community and a great deal of self-confidence were created. In addition, the participants received a three-month scholarship, which provided them with financial support to develop their ideas.
Diversity of ideas
The range of ideas presented showed just how diverse start-ups can be: from creative online services for stress management and digital solutions for more efficient laboratory processes to initiatives that support migrant women arriving in Germany. Other approaches dealt with inclusive family centres or apps to promote equality in partnerships.
All pitches showed that there is great potential when women are given the space, time and confidence to implement their ideas.
Inspiration and exchange
In addition to the start-up pitches, an inspiring keynote speech by Natalie Chirchietti (alumna of Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences and co-founder of Radeln ohne Alter) provided a special introduction to the event. She spoke about networks, resilience and values as a compass on one's own (start-up) path. Afterwards, an open discussion round between female founders, mentors and guests from business, universities and the Bonn ecosystem provided space for reflection and new ideas. The afternoon was rounded off with lively networking, accompanied by catering and a relaxed atmosphere.
More than a conclusion
"AWAKE doesn't end today, something new begins," concluded the team from Start-up-Manufaktur. Scholarship holders become alumnae, ideas become companies, contacts become networks.
AWAKE 2 has once again impressively demonstrated that programmes such as EXIST-Women are a decisive lever for empowering women on their path to self-employment and sustainably enriching start-up ecosystems.
Special thanks go to the participants who courageously presented their ideas, the mentors and speakers who contributed their knowledge, and the partners from Sparkasse KölnBonn, the Bonn and Rhein-Sieg business development agencies, the university and start-up networks who supported the programme.
