The next university elections are scheduled for May 2026. The student members of the departmental councils, the Senate, the Equal Opportunities Office and the representatives of the interests of student assistants will be elected. However, this only works if someone does it. Not all committees have received sufficient nominations to date, so there is an extension period for some committees until Friday, 19 December 2025, during which nominations can still be submitted.

When and where can I submit the election nominations?

The required election nominations originally had to be submitted to the election officer (Office of the Chancellor, E 224), the Legal Office (G 224 to 228) or the reception in Sankt Augustin, Rheinbach or Hennef (Departmental Secretariat, 10 U 11) by Monday, 1 December 2025, 15:00 at the latest.

Extended deadline

Nominations for the Student Council Management Sciences (2 seats available), the Student Council Social Policy and Social Security (1 seat available), and the Equal Opportunities Commission (1 seat available for a male student member) can be submitted until Friday, December 19, 2025, 15:00 at the latest.

To ensure timely submission, it is recommended that the date and time of receipt at the responsible submission office be noted on the election proposal and the envelope. In the case of a postmark, only the postmark is decisive.

Why should I apply?

As a student, you are actively involved in decision-making and resolutions in the committees. After all, the university manages itself.

Academic self-administration is a basic principle of German universities, which empowers employees and students to shape their university within the framework of the legal possibilities and, if necessary, to adapt structures and processes.

You get to know the whole system from a different perspective and can explain to your fellow students why some things are the way they are and what you would have to do if you wanted to change something. And you make contacts with university employees, teaching staff and technical and administrative staff.

Finally, being a member of a committee looks good on your CV, even if that hopefully shouldn't be the main reason for you to apply.

The term of office on all committees and for representing the interests of student assistants is one year.

Okay, I'm ready. What do I do now?

How to write a proposal and what you need to bear in mind can be found in the following document on page 4, the forms for the election proposals can be found on pages 7 to 10.
