Care for family members

Taking on the care of a relative often brings with it a variety of changes in personal circumstances. Physical and emotional stresses develop and push family caregivers to their limits. Good information can help shape and improve a difficult situation.

Solutions must be found for the double burden of work and care.

However, many questions concern relatives even before a care situation arises. For this purpose, the HELP counseling center has compiled an emergency folder.

Essentially, this folder contains forms on which you can privately enter information that may be of importance to you and your relatives in a health emergency. This includes personal and medical information as well as health care proxies and advance directives. In an emergency, the most important information is quickly at hand and further action is facilitated.

Offered by the college for family caregivers:

Absence from work by employees in the event of illness of close relatives

If you are unexpectedly absent from work at short notice due to the need to care for close relatives, the university will grant you 5 days per year or a number of hours equivalent to your weekly working hours to care for your relatives. To do this, you may submit a request for time off from work. It is sufficient to send an informal e-mail to krankmeldung@h-brs.de and to your superiors, indicating the close relative who is being cared for.

A selection of brochures on the subject of "care" is available at the HELP advice center.
