As of the 2019/20 winter semester around 9,250 students are learning and conducting research at H-BRS' three teaching sites, Sankt Augustin, Rheinbach and Hennef. They are supported by approximately 1,000 members of staff. In the 18/19 academic year, more around 1,200 graduates successfully completed their studies and more than 2,150 young people started their degrees at H-BRS in the 2019/2020 winter semester. The students are divided across 5 departments, in which they can choose from 36 different degree programmes (20 Bachelor, 16 Master).
In 16 research institutes such as the Institute of Visual Computing (IVC) or the Institute of Safety and Security Research (ISF) interdisciplinary work is conducted on innovations and applied solutions for current research problems.
Around 150 professors and a good 330 research associates work at the university, which was founded in 1995. They are supported by more than 300 lecturers from academia and professional practice. Approximately 250 people are employed in technology and administration.
Incidentally, over 450,000 visitors drink around 95,000 cups of coffee every year in the canteens on the Sankt Augustin and Rheinbach sites. The area for learning, teaching and working covers well in excess of 100,000 m2, on which the university produces over 6,000 kilowatt hours of electricity every year in its photovoltaic plants.
