Forensic Sciences (BSc)
The H BRS Forensic Science programme at the Department of Natural Sciences
Bachelor's degree in Forensic Sciences
The Bachelor's degree programme in Forensic Sciences is a three-year degree programme that includes courses taught in German and English and concludes with a professionally qualifying Bachelor of Science. The programme has a modular structure. All modules are assessed according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). This facilitates the recognition of academic achievements in Germany and abroad and international student exchanges.
Occupational fields
Forensic scientists are first and foremost applied scientists who use their expertise to support the police, judiciary, insurance companies and authorities in their work. They can find employment in all areas of the public and private sector in which justiciable or security-relevant data needs to be analysed.
Due to their basic scientific training with a strong focus on chemical, material science, biological analysis and quality assurance, scientific forensic scientists can be employed in all areas of private industry that deal with analytical issues in the laboratory, in goods and quality control as well as in production.
The practical relevance of the degree programme and the broad analytical focus therefore do not restrict the professional field to forensically oriented activities (e.g. in criminal investigation departments).
