Find Green Open Access articles

Green Open Access refers to publications that have been published free of charge at another location. Below you will learn how to find these articles easily.
Background

Imagine you find an interesting article and cannot access it because the university licenses do not cover the article. One possibility besides interlibrary loan is to search for Green Open Access articles. Green Open Access are articles that are published in one place (e.g. the publication server) in addition to the original place of publication (usually a scientific journal).

Unpaywall

With the free and legal service Unpaywall you can easily search for Green Open Access articles. Just go to unpaywall.org and add the addon to your browser. And this is how it works:

  1. Visit the website of the article you're interested in and can't access.
  2. On the right side a lock symbol appears
  3. Click on the icon. It will search for the Green Open Access article, if available
You want to publish Green Open Access?
