Department of Computer Science
Project: Industrial Robotics – Robotics Applications from Concept to Commissioning
Aim of the project
The project combines fundamental engineering knowledge with playful, practice-oriented learning. Students experience how theoretical concepts from their studies are translated into real-world technical applications, whilst gaining valuable practical experience from the industrial sector.
From the initial idea through to design and planning, right through to programming and successful commissioning, the project results in the creation of complete robotic applications. In doing so, participants apply their knowledge from the fields of design, automation and programming, whilst at the same time gaining an understanding of the requirements of modern industrial processes.
Through collaboration with igus GmbH, which provides the necessary robot hardware, students work with state-of-the-art technology and gain insights into the real-world challenges of industrial automation. The ReBeL cobot robot arm from igus enables students to experience modern robotics first-hand and to put their own solutions into practice.
The project combines the traditional precision game ‘Hot Wire’ with innovative robotics. This combination provides a vivid and motivating introduction to the world of automation and offers an ideal foundation for developing practical skills in the fields of robotics, programming and Industry 4.0.
The project prepares students to play an active role in shaping future challenges in innovative fields of technology and equips them with practical skills for the industrial workplace of tomorrow.
