Project Description

The international Summer School "Green and Social Entrepreneurship for Biodiversity Conservation and Local Development" will take place in the South African province of KwaZulu Natal from November 4-11, 2018 and is jointly organized by a network of the following African and German partners:

  • The Center for Development Research (ZEF), Bonn University,
  • The School of Agriculture, Engineering and Sciences of the University of KwaZulu Natal,
  • Wildlands Conservation Trust (WILDLANDS),
  • The University of Zululand,
  • The International Center for Sustainable Development (IZNE) and
  • The Global Nature Fund.
Participation

Doctoral and advanced Master's students who are either members or students of the above-mentioned partner institutions or who live in one of the South African countries of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe or Mozambique are eligible to participate. The junior scholars will be invited to submit an abstract of their research to the organizers. During the Summer School, the young scientists will present their work on the topic of "Social and Green Entrepreneurship" in a poster session.

Subject

The concept of "Green and Social Entrepreneurship" is increasingly growing with the ecological challenges in an ever more globalized world. "Social Enviropreneurs" seek to find solutions to environmental and social problems by exploring and promoting innovative development paths as social actors. This Summer School will explore different concepts and ideas on social and green entrepreneurship in theory and practice and create a critical reference to their sustainability while providing a platform for mutual exchange of experiences, ideas and approaches.

Application and costs

Please complete the application form, including a letter of motivation and an abstract (300 words) of your poster/presentation, and submit your CV by June 30, 2018: socialenviropreneur@gmail.com (link sends e-mail).

Successful applicants will receive a stipend for transportation, visa, hotel and meals. No per diem will be paid. Scholarship recipients will be announced by July 15. Balanced representation between countries of origin and between male and female applicants will be sought.
