Marie Bergmann: From First Lego League to professorship
From 1 March 2026, Marie Bergmann will be teaching Business Information Systems with a focus on digitisation and sustainability at the Department of Computer Science at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences.
Bergmann obtained her degree in Computer Science at Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn with a minor in Business Administration. During a stay abroad at the Australian National University in Canberra, she focussed on haptic feedback for the remote control of helicopters. With a royal scholarship in her luggage, she then went to the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, where she completed her doctorate in the field of online algorithms.
After completing her doctorate, Bergmann initially worked as an IT consultant in process and strategy consulting with a focus on master data management and IT governance in pharmaceutical and chemical companies at Camelot ITLab. She moved from the corporate world to work as an IT auditor at the Federal Audit Office, where she "rapped the IT departments on the knuckles". It was during this time that she met her future husband Björn, who had just finished working for the BRS Motorsport team at H-BRS. From 2019, Bergmann dedicated herself to training the next generation of administrators at the Federal University of Public Administration in Brühl - in the Digital Administration and Cyber Security degree programme, which she herself helped to develop.
Marie Bergmann brings a wealth of expertise in the development of IT solutions to support sustainable business models. She is convinced that successful measures must be holistic and require a deep understanding of new technologies. She would like to incorporate this knowledge into teaching at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in order to prepare students for the challenges of digital transformation and sustainability.
"First, solve the problem. Then, write the code." Marie Bergmann quotes John Johnson, emphasising her conviction that digitisation must not only be technologically sound, but also practical. Her teaching and research interests lie in the implementation of GreenIT, the development of sustainable corporate strategies and the user-centred technology of the user journey and design thinking.
The mother is a member of the international service club ZONTA Bonn-Rheinaue, which promotes the education of girls and women and supports various social projects that work to strengthen women's rights. Marie Bergmann is looking forward to cycling to university in future and staying active.
