Cologne – Business informatics student Patrick Lenzen from the Department of Computer Science (H-BRS) has successfully completed his bachelor's colloquium. In his thesis entitled Automation and Optimisation of Frontend Unit Tests with the Help of Artificial Intelligence, he examined how AI methods can make software testing more efficient.

Due to the high technical relevance of his findings, Lenzen was invited by the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) to present his work at a themed evening event organised by the GI's Cologne regional group. The event was held under the umbrella theme of The IT profession – are developers still needed? and focused on the question of how artificial intelligence is changing the work of software developers.

As one of three speakers, Lenzen presented his research findings and provided insights into current developments in AI-supported software testing, before going on to outline the implications for academic education. Further contributions came from Martin Wolf, President of the German Informatics Society and Professor at Aachen University of Applied Sciences, and Dr Mähler from IBM, who is responsible for university relations in the DACH region.
Martin Wolf expressly congratulated Patrick Lenzen on his successful thesis and praised the highly topical and practical relevance of the subject.

The work was supervised by Prof. Dr. Matthias Bertram and Prof. Dr. Oliver Stiemerling, both from the Department of Computer Science (H-BRS), as well as Stefan Endrikat (RWE Supply & Trading). Lenzen himself brought the topic to the table from his work as a student trainee at the company and developed it further in close cooperation between the university and its industry partner.

The themed evening offered participants exciting insights into current developments in computer science and the growing influence of artificial intelligence on the job profile of software developers. For Patrick Lenzen, the invitation was also a special recognition of his scientific work and its practical relevance.
