Structure Bachelor Computer Science

The regular period of study is six semesters. The Stage I Studies consist of three semesters where the basic principles are studied. In the Stage II Studies, also three semesters long, a study focus in the field of Information science is selected.

The following study focuses are currently offered:

  • Bio-medical informatics
  • Media informatics
  • Telecommunication
  • Information science for business (information security, law, and e-commerce)
  • Embedded systems

Other, especially interdisciplinary, study focuses may be selected after individual consultation. An overview of all subjects and lectures will be given by the section modules.

The knowledge of methods will be tested and further developed in practical problem solving tasks in projects and during a 10 week practical phase. The courses and projects typically take place in small groups and are sometimes interdisciplinary with other sections of the university or with companies and institutions outside of the university.

The Bonn-Rhine-Sieg science region offers an excellent framework for cooperations, especially for the practical phases and theses thanks to the universities, scientific institutions, and innovative companies located in the region.

Contact and cooperation programs with foreign universities exist; a stay abroad is supported by the department.

The modular structure of the studies and the valuation of the modules and courses according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) makes international student exchanges easier. The bachelor program comprises a total of 180 credits.

Courses and examinations will be held mostly in German sometimes in English.

The examinations will take place during studies at the end of the semester after the courses are completed.
