Khushal Asefi was a well-known television presenter in his home country of Afghanistan before the Taliban takeover forced him to flee. Now he is trying to build a new life in Germany together with his family. WDR Lokalzeit from Bonn reported on Monday about Asefi's new start after fleeing, in which the university is also supporting him.

He improves his German in a course at the Language Centre so that he will soon be able to work as a journalist again.

The whole feature (German only) was available until 13 February 2023.

As a studio guest, Professor Jürgen Bode, Vice President Internationalisation and Diversity, explained the services the university offers to refugees. These include intensive language courses, such as the one Khushal Asefi is attending. They not only help to learn the language: "We recommend [...] the language course for reasons of integration," said Bode. Any refugee who is interested in studying in Germany and has a certificate similar to the Abitur can take part," Bode continued. Afterwards, it is also possible to study at the H-BRS.
