From 10 to 13 November, we welcomed a delegation from our Canadian partner university UNB to H-BRS. Led by Vice-Provost Prof. Dr. Van Lantz, colleagues from teaching, research, administration and the PhD programme travelled to Germany to deepen our cooperation and explore new potential for future collaboration. The visit took place as part of the DAAD-funded STREAM (Strengthening Ties in Research, Education and Academic Mobility) project, with the aim of expanding the existing partnership and establishing a long-term strategic partnership.

Our guests enjoyed a varied programme at the Sankt Augustin and Rheinbach campuses, including campus and laboratory tours, insights into various research projects, and individual discussions within our departments, institutes and divisions. This was rounded off by an information event with the DAAD and DFG, which presented various funding lines and individual scholarships.

Discussions at management level between Prof. Dr. Van Lantz(UNB Vice Provost Academic Administration), Prof. Dr. Teena Hassan (Vice-President International Affairs and Digital Transformation), Prof. Dr. Peter Muck (Vice-President for Studies and Teaching) and President Prof. Dr. Marion Halfmann also showed that both universities face similar challenges and how inspiring international exchange can be for new ideas. Through the mutual delegation visits, both management teams were able to experience the potential of the partnership first-hand. They assured both to their respective partner and their colleagues on site of their clear support for the further expansion of the cooperation.

A joint excursion to Drachenfels Castle provided an opportunity not only to get to know the Rhineland region better, but also to continue discussions in a relaxed atmosphere. The feedback from our guests about their time with us on campus was consistently positive, both in terms of the intensive technical discussions and the many points of contact for future cooperation in research, teaching and transfer. These now need to be pursued in a targeted manner.

In the wake of these positive developments, we are also delighted to announce two particularly welcome pieces of news:

  1. Prof. Dr. Rainer Herpers adjunct professorship at the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) has recently been extended for a further four years, until 2029. Since 2008, this professorship has enabled Prof. Dr. to offer graduate-level courses and to supervise master's and PhD students at UNB.
  2. In addition, the number of tuition-free places for semesters abroad within the framework of the partnership with UNB has been significantly increased: from 4 to 16 places. This underlines UNB's strong commitment to further expanding cooperation and strengthening student exchange in the long term.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the UNB delegation for their visit and their great interest in our university. We would also like to thank all our colleagues at H-BRS from the departments, institutes and divisions who took the time to provide insights into their fields of work and contribute ideas for future cooperation.
