Dr Sebastian Groß takes over professorship for Factory Automation and Industrial Robotics
After studying mechanical engineering at Trier University of Applied Sciences, Environmental Campus Birkenfeld, Groß specialised in the fields of robotics and automation. He completed his doctorate at the University of Luxembourg on the subject of agile production control for (re)fabrication systems - a field of research that deals with the remanufacturing of used products. Among other things, he developed a control system to efficiently and flexibly restore used vehicle components to as-new condition. He is now bringing the approach of considering sustainable and resource-saving aspects in production processes to the university.
At the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld, Groß already gained experience in teaching and research as a doctoral student as part of the cross-border Interreg project Robotix-Academy. He was also active as head of department in the field of robotics, automation and remanufacturing. He then set up his own business consultancy and has been supporting companies in the implementation of projects in the fields of Industry 4.0, robotics and AI for over three years. Most recently, he also held a deputy professorship at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences in Zweibrücken. He is now bringing his expertise to H-BRS:
"I'm really looking forward to my time at the university - teaching and working with students are particularly important to me. The warm welcome in the faculty has made it very easy for me to get started. I am particularly grateful to my predecessor, Professor Rainer Bastert, and Claudia Holbach, who set up an excellently equipped laboratory and gave me a lot of support when I started. I see it as a great opportunity to continue working on this basis, provide new impetus and carry out research projects," said Groß on his appointment by University President Marion Halfmann.
