Science from its practical side at the Open Project Day

Tag des offenen Projekts TdoP Juli 2025

Monday 7 July 2025

Open lab doors, taster lectures and lots of objects from teaching: at the "Open Project Day" on Friday, 4 July, at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS), students showed what they had been working on during the semester. A good opportunity for school pupils to see the university from the inside and find out about the study options.

In the Department of Computer Science, for example, the Institute of Visual Computing (IVC) provided exciting insights into the latest research projects. The Game Studio, where students develop and test computer games, and the server rooms with high-performance computers for computationally intensive simulations were also open.

The Department of Engineering and Communication (IWK) also presented a wealth of current projects from the current semester. For example, the student motorsport team will be showing the brand new electric racing car. There is also a model of an automated high-bay warehouse, a hydrogen demonstrator, a digital synthesiser, an analogue guitar amplifier and a microcontroller-operated coffee grinder. Robots, which can perform a wide variety of tasks, were well represented. The department also provided insights into its practice-oriented media degree programmes. For example, students showed how they produce video content in their own studio or create social media content in a simulated editorial office.

The programme on the "Open Project Day" was complemented by taster lectures on subjects such as mechanical engineering, sustainable engineering and media studies.
