Solidarity with partner university in Ukraine

Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg strongly condemns the Russian attack on Ukraine. University President Hartmut Ihne shares the German government's view that this is a blatant and malicious breach of international law.

"We are appalled by this warmongering, which Europe has not seen in this dimension since the Second World War," said President Ihne. "The attack is directed at all of us because it is directed against free societies and against freedom of thought and action - which is also of enormous importance for science."

Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg maintains relations with a partner university in Ukraine. In 2012, it concluded a cooperation agreement with Chernihiv National University of Technology, with the focus of the joint projects initially being on renewable energies and electromobility. Most recently, the focus has been on control technology in conjunction with artificial intelligence for use in industry.

"Our thoughts are with the colleagues at our partner university and with all the people in Ukraine. We not only want to express our solidarity, but also offer concrete support within the framework of our partnership," Ihne continued.

The university is in close contact with two Ukrainian academics from the partner university who were employed at the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in various funded projects. In view of the war in their home country, both scientists were offered continued employment in research projects at short notice.
