Alexander Graf Lambsdorff visits H-BRS
Exciting exchange on global issues and the role of science in times of crisis: Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, Deputy Chairman of the FDP parliamentary group and designated German Ambassador in Moscow, was a guest at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg. The occasion was a joint interview with University President Hartmut Ihne, which will appear in the upcoming annual report.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine was a dominant topic in 2022. Based on this, Ihne and Lambsdorff talked about an ominous trend: according to the Economist's Democracy Index, only 45.7 percent of people live in a democracy. To what extent politics and a politically independent science can stop this development was one topic of the discussion. In particular, it was about the role of science - keyword science diplomacy.
Alexander Graf Lambsdorff from Bonn was a Member of the European Parliament for many years. He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2017. In the summer of 2023, the foreign policy expert will move to Moscow as German ambassador.
