In cooperation with the Rhein-Sieg district, the Equal Opportunities Office supports female pupils from the 8th grade onwards in developing their career aspirations in the school project “Pupils' Research Year”.

In collaboration with the Rhein-Sieg District, the Office for Gender Equality supports female students in 8th grade and above in exploring their career options through the school project “GIRLS DO IT—The Girls’ STEM Year.”
Understanding technology, developing their own ideas, and finding solutions together: With “GIRLS DO IT—The Girls’ STEM Year,” we aim to encourage girls starting in 8th grade to discover their own potential in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology.

For the fourth time, the Equal Opportunity Office at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences is organizing the Girls’ STEM Year in collaboration with the Rhein-Sieg District. This school project supports female students in their career and academic planning and provides them with practical insights into the diverse world of STEM subjects.

The year kicks off with an opening event at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. As the school year progresses, the participants will come to the university for the “Hackdays.” For three days, they will tinker, program, experiment, and develop. Together, the girls will work on digital and technical solutions to challenges they face in their own everyday school life. In the process, they’ll learn that their ideas are valued and that they themselves can design technical solutions.

In addition to hands-on experimentation, the program also focuses on looking ahead: As part of the zdi-BSO-MINT initiatives, the students have the opportunity to learn about various STEM degree programs and career fields and to begin exploring their own career prospects early on.

GIRLS DO IT aims to encourage participants to try new things, discover technical skills, and perhaps even develop a career aspiration they hadn’t considered before.
