Date

Monday, 01 September 2025

Time

14:00 - 15:30

Estonia is regarded as a pioneer of digital transformation - from e-government and cybersecurity strategies to the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in educational institutions. During the delegation trip to Tallinn supported by the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung, representatives from Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg and Hochschule Niederrhein gained exciting insights into current developments in cybersecurity. The HFD Hangout on 1 September from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. will reflect on key impressions from this trip, discuss technological and educational policy innovations and highlight the role of AI, digital twins and capture-the-flag formats (CTFs) in the training of IT security specialists.

The following key questions will be discussed:

  • What can German universities and authorities learn from the Estonian approach to cybersecurity?
  • How can concepts such as AI-supported security analyses, digital twins and CTFs be meaningfully anchored in university teaching?

    Hangout speakers

Prof Dr Matthias Mehrtens, Cyber Security Management (Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences)

Prof Dr Hannes Tschofenig, Computer Science & Network Security (Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences)

Prof Dr Teena Hassan, Professor of Computer Science (Autonomous Systems) (Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences)
