Vice President Johannes Steinhaus is the new Alumni Commissioner

Vice President Johannes Steinhaus has been appointed Alumni Commissioner of the H-BRS President's Office. In this position, he will work closely with the university's Alumni Office and bring the opportunities and challenges of the alumni network to the attention of the university's management.

"I look forward to representing the perspective of our alumni network on the Executive Board. H-BRS has seen more than 20,000 graduates receive their degrees. This is an immensely large community of friends of our university. Alumni bring valuable practical insights and important contacts from companies to the university. We also see them as potential sponsors and cooperation partners. A vibrant alumni network means many opportunities for H-BRS – for teaching, research and transfer, but also for attracting future students. Together with the Alumni Office, I would like to strengthen these areas at the university."

The Vice President and Professor in the Department of Natural Sciences is himself a graduate of H-BRS, having completed his degree in materials engineering in 2003. After several years working in the private sector, he returned to H-BRS to pursue his doctorate. In 2020, he was appointed Professor of Materials Science. Johannes Steinhaus has been Vice President for Research and Transfer since March 2025. 

As Alumni Officer, Johannes Steinhaus follows former Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity Jürgen Bode, professor in the Department of Management Sciences, and mechanical engineering professor Iris Groß, Dean of the Department of Engineering and Communication. Both had held this position since 2019.
