Best Paper at the ACM Symposium on Virtual Reality Software and Technology
Of the 332 submissions, 90 were accepted; only two papers received an honorable mention, and only one received the Best Paper Award. This award underscores the high scientific relevance of research in the field of mixed reality.
The award went to Carlos Mosquera (PhD student at Siemens), Prof. Dr. Ernst Kruijff (H-BRS), Neven ElSayed (Postdoc, University of Graz), Joseph Newman (Siemens), and Eduardo Veas (Graz University of Technology), who are collaborating on the “DDIA – Data-Driven Immersive Analytics in the Digital Industry” project at Graz University of Technology – a successful cooperation between Siemens, H-BRS, and Graz University of Technology. Kruijff supported the study in particular with the design of interaction techniques and planning.
The study investigates the manipulation of virtual 3D objects with four degrees of freedom (4DoF) on tabletop surfaces in mixed reality. Hand interactions and tactile interactions are compared using a specially developed cylindrical haptic proxy that combines physical buttons and the tabletop surface for particularly stable and precise inputs.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone involved for their outstanding commitment and dedicated cooperation, which made this success possible.
