Year in review: Partnership with the Vietnamese-German University

WS 2025/26 Studierende mit ISAP-Stipendium an der VGU

Friday 5 December 2025

Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg looks back on an intensive year of cooperation with the Vietnamese-German University (VGU). H-BRS is a founding member of the German consortium association of the VGU and has been involved in the development of joint study programmes for many years. The cooperation agreement, which has been in place since 2016, was successfully extended for another five years this year.

Since the end of 2024, the cooperation has also been funded by a two-year ISAP project from the DAAD. After a challenging start, the programme gained significant momentum in 2025. A brief review:

2025 Prof Dr. Sascha Alda (Dekan FB Informatik-H-BRS) trifft Prof. Dr. René Thiele, Präsident der VGU

The first step was Prof. Dr. Sascha Alda's business trip in February 2025. While there, he deepened personal exchanges, got to know key contacts at VGU, and discussed current topics and future projects with VGU President Prof. Dr. René Thiele. One focus was on planning joint degree programmes in the field of computer science and exchanging ideas on industrial projects, including green IT and sustainability.

In September, Carolin Pohl (research assistant in the Department of Computer Science), who represented H-BRS at the International Day at VGU, accepted the invitation to visit Vietnam. Her visit provided an opportunity to get to know the partner university in person for the first time and to discuss important points for the current ISAP programme and the follow-up application.

At the same time, six H-BRS students began their semester abroad, studying at VGU on ISAP scholarships until February 2026. H-BRS also welcomed five students from VGU, who will be spending the winter semester 25/26 in Sankt Augustin and Rheinbach.

The exchange of lecturers is also gaining momentum: in December 2025, Prof. Dr. Javad Ghofrani and Prof. Dr. Andreas Hackelöer will travel to VGU for short-term lectureships; in spring 2026, we expect a return visit from Prof. Dr. Le Lam Son.

Overall, we can look back on a lively and enriching exchange year and hope to further expand our successful cooperation with the approval of the follow-up application.
