Startup Date Recup

Our guest: Fabian Eckert

Fabian Eckert is one of the key figures in a movement that has become an integral part of many people's everyday lives. The turquoise RECUP cups and REBOWL lunch boxes stand for a simple, everyday and effective contribution to waste avoidance and have thus become a symbol of practical climate protection. What seems obvious today began in 2015 with an idea in a Swedish lecture theatre: the question of how to avoid billions of items of disposable packaging and change an entire system. The fact that his co-founder Florian was developing the same idea at another university at the same time was the coincidence that made RECUP possible.

In the interview, Fabian takes us back to the early days of the start-up, talks about courageous decisions, setbacks and the challenges that arise when a market first has to develop and then suddenly explodes. He talks about how political changes, competition and his own striving for further development have shaped RECUP. And he openly reveals what it means to become the market leader in a short space of time, manage growth and at the same time develop a product that really makes a lasting difference.

At Startup Date, you will have the opportunity to meet one of the key drivers of the German reusable movement in person. As always, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and talk directly to Fabian after our interview.

The Startup Date format is initiated by hei_INNOVATION, the start-up centre of Heidelberg University and jointly organised by a group of colleges and universities with the aim of telling the story behind the start-up personality.
