Department of Engineering and Communication
Professor Andreas Bunzemeier retires
Andreas Bunzemeier is an expert in control engineering, dynamic systems and digital signal processing. He helped set up the Department of Engineering and Communication, then still known as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Technical Journalism. Bunzemeier studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Paderborn and then worked in industry for many years. When he worked at ABB in the field of power plant control technology, he became aware of the young university. "It was a good fit for my professional career. Control engineering and digital signal processing were exactly the topics I was interested in." Modelling technical systems, experimental identification of technical processes, model and knowledge-based control, application-based implementation of modern control methods, robust control and control loop optimisation - these were his main areas of focus.
Andreas Bunzemeier was rooted in practical teaching at the university for over 25 years. He was course coordinator for the bachelor's degree programme in Electrical Engineering, and he was Chairman of the Examination Board for 31 semesters. He supervised several generations of students. "I always enjoyed accompanying the students on their journey and seeing them end up in good professional positions."
What will he miss after he leaves teaching? "The good atmosphere in the department and at the university," says the outgoing professor. "We always had a good working relationship, it was always about finding solutions together."
His successor is already in place: Andreas Ortseifen was appointed Professor of Control Engineering and Signal Processing last autumn.
