Job shadowing at Student Services promotes international exchange between GJU and H-BRS

From 4 to 15 May, H-BRS welcomed Musab Althawabeyah from the German Jordanian University (GJU) for a two-week job shadowing placement in Student Services. The aim of the visit was to facilitate professional exchange between the two partner universities and to provide an insight into the work processes and structures at H-BRS.

During his visit, Musab Althawabeyah spent his mornings shadowing Ruth von Münster, Emine Erdogan-Saat and Sebastian Bücklers as they carried out their work in Student Services at the Sankt Augustin campus. This gave him an insight into the team structures, as well as the processes and working methods at H-BRS. As Musab Althawabeyah works at the GJU in the Registrar’s Office, a role similar to that of Student Services, there was a continuous professional exchange. This also gave the H-BRS colleagues exciting insights into the structures and processes at the GJU, and it provided an opportunity to reflect and discuss together which inputs or ideas could be applied to or even integrated into their own work environments.

In addition to the job shadowing in Student Services, Musab Althawabeyah enjoyed a varied programme during his time at H-BRS. He got to know both campuses of the university as well as numerous colleagues from Student Services and other departments, including the library, Department 02 and the International Office. He also took part in various events and meetings and was actively involved in many areas.

Musab Althawabeyah particularly highlighted the “Intercultural Communications” course run by Eileen Küppers from the Language Centre. In this course, students developed business concepts and discussed with him whether and how these would work in a Jordanian context, and what cultural specificities would need to be taken into account. Both sides benefited from this open exchange far beyond the scope of the business proposals.

In a further open meeting, Musab Althawabeyah introduced the GJU to interested students and staff. In a relaxed atmosphere, a diverse and personal exchange took place.

The two intensive weeks gave many colleagues the opportunity for professional and personal exchange and left a lasting impression on both sides. We would like to extend our thanks to all colleagues who took the time to engage in these exchanges and whose positive feedback helped make Musab Althawabeyah's stay such a success.

At the farewell coffee, Musab Althawabeyah expressed his deep gratitude for his time at the university, the warm welcome, the many experiences and the valuable insights. We would like to thank Musab Althawabeyah as well for being with us and for sparking an interest in Jordan in so many people with his open and positive manner.
