Visit of University and Institution representatives from Malaysia
On Monday Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) welcomed twelve representatives from Malaysian higher education institutions, including several vice presidents and officials from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education, to its Sankt Augustin campus on Monday. The delegation was accompanied by representatives of the DAAD and the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). H-BRS was the first university to host the group during their visit to Germany.
Following a welcome address by the President of H-BRS, Prof. Dr. Marion Halfmann, the guests received an overview of the university's profile and its key areas of expertise. The delegation expressed particular interest in the University of Applied Sciences model and in topics related to climate change, energy transformation, and information technology.
Dr. Simon Roth, Head of the Centre for Science and Technology Transfer (ZWT) then introduced the university's transfer activities and support services. This provided an excellent basis for discussions on potential areas of collaboration between Malaysian institutions and H-BRS. Productive exchanges took place on opportunities for student mobility as well as future joint research initiatives.
The programme also included a presentation on the partnership with the Vietnamese-German University in the Department of Computer Sciences and an introduction to the "Garrulus" research project, which focuses on reforestation and the monitoring of damaged forest areas using innovative technologies. One particularly encouraging aspect of the visit was the lively discussion that emerged during the project presentation, with delegation members contributing ideas and potential solutions for the further development of the research initiative. During the subsequent visit to the UAV Lab, participants gained additional insights into applied research project at H-BRS.
The visit created valuable opportunities for professional exchange and networking. H-BRS hopes that some of the discussions initiated during the programme will lead to future collaborations and further strengthen the university's international partnerships in Southeast Asia.
